Will Brand Pages Affect How Companies and Users Interact On Twitter?

Earlier this week word got out that Twitter was considering offering companies the ability to create brand pages. These pages would be a place where companies could send Twitter users to provide them with information and encourage them to follow them.

These pages would be very similar to brand pages on Facebook and could be used to convey a company’s brand message and provide a channel for companies to listen and communicate with their followers.

Currently, companies are able to create Twitter accounts and interact with their followers through these pages. The purposed brand pages would allow the companies to present more of a brand message and information about their company. While this would not be a huge benefit for companies such as Pepsi and Best Buy, it could be very effective for small businesses and start-ups who are just beginning their branding.

We do know that as Twitter grows and burns through the enormous amount of funding it received they are looking for additional ways to generate revenue. Could this be a potential revenue stream? Currently on Facebook setting up pages is free so it is most likely that Twitter will follow suit and not charge for setting up a brand page.

Do you think brand pages on Twitter would be more effective or work well with brand Twitter accounts? Let us know in the comments!
